Alvin John Eurich was born at home in Calhan, CO on June 16, 1930 to Joseph M. and Helen (Trojanovich) Eurich. The second of five children, Alvin grew up on the family farm North of Calhan. He attended Sentinal Ridge School from 1st-8th grade and then graduated from Calhan High School in 1948. Alvin was a dedicated member of the St. Mary’s Orthodox church for all his life.
Alvin was drafted into the Army in April of 1951. He completed tank basic training in Ft. Hood, TX. From there, he went to Ft. Knox, KY for six weeks of auto mechanic school and then an additional 21 weeks of armored school. Alvin was sent to Korea in May of 1952 and served as a tank mechanic. While in Korea, Alvin’s actions earned him a Bronze Star. He was sent home in April of 1953.
Alvin married Muriel Maxine (Maul) Eurich on June 6, 1954 and to this union one son, Gordon Alvin Eurich was born. Alvin and Muriel moved to Simla in 1955, where he worked for Moody Motor Company for 28 years. They then purchased the business in 1981. Alvin continued his work as a mechanic for a total of 63 years.
One of his biggest loves was the Town of Simla. He spent 36 years in the city government serving as mayor for 20 years and on the town council for 16 years. During that time, Alvin also served East Council of Government, on the fire department and was a member of the VFW in Calhan and the American Legion in Simla. Alvin loved the family dogs and you never saw him out in his wrecker without at least one lab by his side.
Alvin is survived by wife Muriel, son Gordon (Dawna Lou), grandchildren Tad (Cherri) and Tabitha (Danny) Piel. Alvin had five great grandchildren, Ryann and TJ Eurich and Kaden, Kya, and Delaney Piel. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Helen. He is survived by brothers Joe (Betty) Eurich, Vincent (Jackie) Eurich, Harold (Dee) Eurich, and sister Carol Ann (Darrell) Dutro, and sister-in-law Twila Bearfoot, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
