Anita Gay Stewart was the 1st born child to Howard and Eileen Stewart on May 15th 1940. She went to the Burlington Schools and graduated in 1958. From there Anita went to CSU in Ft. Collins.
While in high school and during her summers while attending college; Anita worked as a telephone operator and was a member of a local bowling league. She loved books and movies and helped manage the Midway Theatre for several years. After attending college; Anita moved back to Burlington and started working at Busby, Inc. From there she became a Deputy Sheriff for Kit Carson County and became very proficient with her pistol. It wasn’t long after that a position opened up in the District Court office where Anita really met her calling. After several years of working she was appointed clerk of the District for Kit Carson County. She dedicated her time and knowledge to this job until she retired June 30th 2002.
Anita had a very passionate hobby which was sewing and quilting. Once she retired; she was able to devote all her time to her hobby, but still took time to sing in the choir at the Methodist Church; where she has been a lifetime member.
Along with her quilting, she was able to incorporate embroidery into her quilts. It was so exciting to see which quilts Anita would enter in the county fair. She took home many awards.
There are so many family members and good friends to Anita’s that still have many of her "works of art." That’s what each quilt, she made was considered.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother Stanley. She is survived by a brother Don Stewart and wife Pauline of Burlington and a sister Ruth Elliott and husband Jim of Monument. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she truly adored.
Memorials may be made to the Burlington United Methodist Church in Anita's memory and may be left at or sent to Love Funeral Home, 377 15th Street, Burlington, Colorado 80807.
