Betty Jean Marie Lohmeier

Betty Jean Marie Lohmeier passed away on December 12, 2020, at Lincoln Community Hospital Care Center. She was born July 27, 1926, in a country home north of Limon. She was the daughter of John Johnson and Bertine Marie (Iverson) Johnson and was the youngest of seven children. As a child, she attended a country school and helped with the family farm. In 1944, she graduated from Limon High School and then worked as a telephone switch board operator. Betty met her husband Jack Lohmeier, while attending high school. They were married on February 15, 1947 and were married 72 years. To this union were born 6 children. Betty was a homemaker until her youngest attended school. She worked at Limon Schools as a cook and then was a salesclerk/bookkeeper at Gaskill Department Store for many years until retirement. Betty was an excellent seamstress, sewing for her family and doing alterations for the department store and many others. Her family and friends were blessed with the many afghans and quilts she made throughout the years. She was an excellent cook and loved her annual Christmas cookie baking day with her best friend Ida Einertson. These cookies were donated to bake sales and given to co-workers, family and friends. She was a very hard worker and was always devoted to her family. Betty was a member of the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church until her death. Betty was preceded in death by: her parents and siblings; husband Jack Lohmeier; daughter Julie Oglesby; son’s-in-law Jim Mauldin and Willie Layton. Betty is survived by: children Nancy Mauldin of Limon, David (Marge) Lohmeier of Limon, Dennis (Cary) Lohmeier of Longmont, Jan Layton of Limon and Susan Meyer of Limon; son-in-law Michael Oglesby of Windsor; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
