Billie Kay Goodrich

Billie Kay (Kliewer) Goodrich passed from this world Sunday November 12, 2017 at her home in Flagler, Co surrounded by her loving family at the age of 84. As a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and many friends. Born July 22, 1933 to Josie and Bill Kliewer in Flagler Colorado, Billie Kay’s early life was filled with many adventures and life lessons. She loved nothing more than spending time with her father at the local hardware store in Flagler. She spent her time growing up attending Flagler High School becoming the first Homecoming Queen and Valedictorian of the 1951 graduating class. Upon graduation, Billie worked for a year at Williams Pharmacy at the famous soda counter. In the fall of 1952 Billie Kay married the love of her life, Robert Lloyd Goodrich. When Lloyd was drafted in the Army and headed to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for basic training, Billie loaded up all their belongings and faithfully followed. Over the next few years the couple was transferred several times across the US. Billie moved back to Flagler when Lloyd served a tour in Japan. When he arrived back home they moved to Deer Trail where Lloyd was employed by the Port of Entry. In 1957 the couple moved back to Flagler and bought the home that they would live in together until her passing. In December of the same year the couple welcomed their only child Tami Kay. The family loved to travel, camp, and water ski in the postal van that Lloyd remodeled into a camper. Billie Kay also spent many years working for the emergency call system so she could work from home. She directed many ambulances and fire trucks on lifesaving missions. She dearly loved the endeavors involved and served diligently until the system was replaced by the current 911 system. She was also a member of the the Congregational Church in Flagler, and loved, for many years, the company and friends made at her weekly appointment at the beauty shop and the Senior Citizen Center. Billie Kay loved her grandchildren. Brian, Chris and David spent many hours with their grandma. She was the Ultimate teacher as she taught the boys to read, write and the basics of math even before they started school. The boys loved spending time with her and grandpa. The family took summer end trips to Cripple Creek and the Colorado Mountains each year until the boys graduated from high school. Rarely did Billie Kay ever miss an extracurricular or sporting activity that their grandchildren participated in. The memories created will be forever cherished. Billie Kay was an amazing caregiver. When her father passed away they moved a modular in to the north of their home so that her mother (with Alzheimer’s) could be cared for until she had to be moved to a nursing home. Once there she went and visited her there at least 3 times a week until her passing. She was also a loving and loyal caregiver to her husband Lloyd. I think everyone would agree that she was one of the strongest women you would ever meet.
