William Bruce Richter, age 85, passed away on Saturday, August 28th at his home in Strasburg, Colorado. He was the husband of Lavaughn Gail Richter. They shared 64 years of marriage together.
Bruce was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Strasburg. He was the son of Bill and Vera Richter. He is survived by one sister, Marian Bryan (Clint), of Hesston, Kansas. He graduated from Strasburg High School in 1953 and attended one year of college at Colorado University. He worked in the furniture industry, interior design, managed a restaurant, and worked as a buyer for the City of Greeley during his working career. Bruce’s happiest time was spent as a Pastor doing the Lord’s work. He pastored in nursing homes for many years and became a beloved preacher!
He was a member of the Strasburg Community Church (and previously Strasburg Presbyterian Church). Bruce was very active in the church, serving as Elder for many years as well as teaching Sunday School and leading the Youth Group. Bruce served on the Strasburg School Board and was active in the building of the new high school and elementary school. Bruce coached boys’ little league baseball and girls’ softball for many years, which he enjoyed and loved immensely. Being an active athlete in high school served him well in these endeavors.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Lavaughn Richter; Annette Thurman, daughter; Jeffrey Richter, son, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Richter; Lynette Miller, daughter, and son-in-law, Dean Miller. Grandchildren: Myranda Maughan (Michael), Melyssa Robinson (Doug), Meghynn Harrington, Whitney Richter (Santford Hedger), Jared Richter, Toryn Greener (Luke); Eli Miller; Joshua Miller. Great-Grandchildren: Emily Maughan, Olivia Maughan, Camdyn Robinson, Gunnar Robinson, Ayden Harrington, Josephine Greener and Miriam Greener.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents Bill and Vera Richter, baby sister Sally, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gladys and Cecil Cook, son-in-law Rick Thurman.
A graveside service will be held September 8 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a family service at 12:00 noon at Strasburg Community Church.
