CARL RAGENE JOHNSON
1930-2022
Carl Johnson passed away on September 2, 2022. He was born March 8, 1930 to Hollie and Ruby (Curtis) Johnson at Karval, Colorado. He had one older sister Maxine that died in infancy and a younger sister and brother, Alta Mae and Ronald Johnson
He attended Karval School during his elementary years and went to Hugo for high school.
During his younger years he helped his father with farming and ranching. He also drove a truck for one of the local truckers and installed lines for REA when electricity came to the Karval area in the late 1940’s.
Carl married Helen Pifer in 1952. At that time they purchased a ranch thirteen miles South West of Karval. He raised a stepson and two granddaughters there before they sold the ranch and moved to Canon City in 1993. Carl and Helen divorced in 1999.
Carl was a very capable person, in addition to ranching he was a good electrician, builder, heavy equipment operator and had a business doing piping and trenching for several years. During the years he lived in Canon City he mowed the right-of-ways and crossings for the railroad.
Carl always had friends he enjoyed playing and partying with them. On occasion almost to excess. If you was one of these friends, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for you.
Carl was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Alta Mae and brother Ronald. He is survived by one niece Kathy Gallion and granddaughters, Shelly Dorland and Brenda Johnson.
