Dean Alan Wieser, a lifelong farmer and rancher, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the age of 70. Born in Burlington, Colorado, on November 8, 1954, Dean dedicated his life to working the land he loved in Idalia. His commitment to farming, ranching, and his family was unwavering, shaping the legacy he leaves behind.
Dean's early years were marked by his passion for sports, Future Farmers of America, and being the class president. He played football, baseball, basketball, which earned him a basketball scholarship to Fort Hays State University. He graduated from Idalia High School in 1972. However, his greatest achievement came when he met the love of his life, Susan Riedesel, in high school. Their love story blossomed, and they were married on June 23, 1974, beginning a journey that would span over five decades. They traveled and experienced the world together, and always brought home great stories and memories of their travels. The love they shared was endless.
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ruth Wieser; his father, Chester Wieser; and his two sisters, Connie Wieser and Joyce Wieser. His mother in law, Beulah Riedesel and father in law, John Riedesel. He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Wieser; his son, Micheal Wieser; his daughter, Joan Wieser, and her husband, Mikel Seaman, as well as their daughters, Sydney and Madison Seaman; his daughter Pam Fox and her husband, Nick Fox, along with their children, Micah and Leo Fox; his son, Grant Wieser, and his wife, Amanda Wieser, along with daughter, Emma Wieser. His brothers, Roger Wieser and Chester Wieser.
Dean's life was centered around his family and the land he so deeply cherished. His love for farming was not just a livelihood, but a way of life. As he worked to establish his farm, he worked at Co-Op for two years. He took great pride in nurturing the earth, tending to his animals, and passing on his wisdom to the generations that followed. His grandkids were his world. More than anything, he loved spending time with them and going on adventures. He enjoyed making each grandchild feel loved and supported.
Dean was a quiet man, but his actions spoke volumes. He had a great sense of humor that filled the room with laughter. Whether it was working tirelessly to care for his farm, supporting his children and grandchildren in their endeavors, or sharing a quiet moment with Susan on the porch at the end of a long day, his presence was one of steady strength, quiet humor, and deep love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, and in the fields he cultivated for over 50 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to the Eastern Plains Animal Welfare Alliance.
