Donald Francis Sherer, 60, of Strasburg, Colorado lost his battle to cancer on December 16th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noramay and John C. Sherer, and brothers Jimmie Ewing and Johnnie Ewing. He is survived by the love of his life Patty Sherer. Siblings; Karen Doughty, Sheryl (Ed) Augusbury, Bruce (Sharon) Sherer, Sharon Morgan, Carole (Jeff) Mills, and Bobby (Mandy) Sherer. Children; Nathan McCoy, Christopher (Gus) McCoy, Avis (Bret) Devlin, Josh (Jamie) McCoy, Michael (Lyndsey) Sherer, and Matthew (Danielle) Sherer. Grandchildren; Mayrene, Nataleigh, Andrew, Thomas, Joseph, Carley, Luke, Keegan. Donald also loved his seven grand dogs, and three grand cats.
Some of Don’s many accomplishments included attending Red Rocks and Aims Community college before serving with the Bennett and Strasburg Fire Departments for a total of 42 years. During that time his job descriptions ranged from EMT, Firefighter, Fire officer, Board Director, Board President and Fire chief. He loved dedicating time to community and attending community functions.
After graduating high school, he continued his education by attending T.H. Pickens diesel automotive school. His skills proved to be useful for helping at the family’s businesses which included the Conoco, towing, repair shop and a hotel that opened in 1943. This was all before building the store and shop that everyone knows today. Don also opened the Big A (Carquest) and continued towing and shop work.
He will be remembered as a man with a heart of gold.
