Dorothy Irene Cranmer

Dorothy Irene Cranmer, our loving mother, gained her angel wings on November 12, 2025 at the age of 84. Dorothy was born on June 22, 1941 in Kimball, NE to Harvey and Helen Rodgers. They lovingly called her Dot. The second of four children, she had two sisters, Maureen and Helen, and one brother Harvey. Later, the family made their home in Casper, WY where she met Robert (Bob). She married Robert William Leaver in 1958. They lived in Casper, WY and were married for 20 years. They had six children: Annette (Kerry Pittman), Elizabeth (Keith King), Robert II (Cathy Leaver), Colleen, Katrina (Jeff Burian), and Richard (Kelly Leaver). During their younger years, she volunteered as leader of their Girl Scout Troop. She loved taking them on camping trips, helping her scouts earn badges, and selling an unending supply of girl scout cookies. She inspired her children with her volunteerism and passion, leading some of them to become scout leaders many years down the road. Dorothy and Bob had a love of the outdoors and we all remember when she brought home her first moose. She proudly displayed the antlers on her living room wall.

Eventually, Dorothy remarried Everett R. Cranmer II and moved to Colorado. She helped to raise his two children; Everett 3rd and Stacy. She finished her education at Blair Junior College and worked for the United States Soccer Federation for several years. Then they moved east and purchased a ranch in Stratton, Colorado where they raised cattle. The grandchildren enjoyed bottle feeding many calves and helping with projects around the ranch. They also owned and operated a pilot car service for 25 years, traveling all over the United States escorting oversized loads with precision and dedication. Dorothy loved traveling and seeing new places. Cruises were a favorite way to spend their down time and they visited Alaska, Jamaica, and the Panama Canal among several other places. They were married for 39 years.

Dorothy was a strong woman of faith which helped her to overcome breast cancer.

She loved her family and enjoyed traveling to visit her 6 children, 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Stops were also made to visit nieces and nephews along the way. Living next to her grandson and his children was a great delight to her. Gardening was also a favorite pastime. Flowers, strawberries, and record-breaking zucchini always graced her gardens.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Rodgers and Helen McCleery, her two sisters, Maureen and Helen, Everett 3rd, and her daughter Elizabeth. We will miss her hugs, smiles and prayers immensely.

As it is often stated, grief never ends, but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love and Dorothy was deeply loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
