Douglas James Koehn, 63 of Limon Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023 with his loving family at his side.
Doug was born to James and Joyce (Smiley) Koehn on May 3, 1960 at Mercy Hospital in Denver. He was welcomed home by his older sister Jeanie, to be followed by his baby sister Lisa in 1965.
Doug was raised on the family farm north of Limon where he lived his entire life. Many of you have memories of his growing up years and know that he was a very energetic little boy. Many times his mom would tell him to get outside and not to come back in until dinner. He attended Limon Public Schools where he excelled at math, which later served him well in his farm/ranch operation. Doug participated in wrestling and football at Limon High School. He went to NJC after High School, graduating with an Associates degree in 1980.
Douglas Keith was born on August 31, 1985 to Doug and Lora Teske. Doug married Julie Fay on June 21, 1992 and soon to follow, Holly Renae was born on January 10, 1993 and James Tyler on March 2, 1995. Doug took the kids to check the cattle and the farm grounds, dig for seed, look for deer, and always stopped at Loaf n Jug to grab snacks for the many miles ahead. Dougie remembers his Dad cheering him on as he played football and as they worked cattle together. Holly will always remember her Dad’s genuine love for others. She tells a story of her Dad sitting down by a little lady at the hospital, he asked her how she was and she shared her heartache with Doug. Doug told the lady he would be praying for her and as she walked away, he prayed right there. Tyler told the story of being with his Dad and if they were to see a homeless person, Dad would go to a grocery store to buy a rotisserie chicken and take it back to them.
Doug and Don Grokett had a business together for several years. Then he began Koehn Trucking in the early 90’s. Doug enjoyed being on the road hauling grain, hay and cattle. One of Doug’s favorite stories was driving many miles loading and hauling small bales of hay. His best summer of hauling was 99 loads in 3 months which equates to loading and unloading 77 thousand bales. In the late 2000’s Doug began farming and ranching full time alongside his dad.
Doug loved to hunt and fish, almost as much as he enjoyed telling the stories. He also had a love for guns, watching it rain and was fervently patriotic. Doug cherished time with friends and family and always wanted to make sure everyone was fed. He would grill steaks, ribs, and hamburgers for all that wanted to come and eat. He had a heart for people and never met a stranger. He adored his grandchildren and wanted to share his love of the farm with them.
Later in his life he married Joni Corcoran on July 24th, 2016 and she filled his life with joy and love. She always had a warm meal at the end of the day and was at his right hand for farm work and during his many stays in the hospital.
In 2021 Doug went out and purchased his own Bible and his goal was to read the entire Bible cover to cover. He looked forward to his daily Bible verse from his friends and John 3:16 was his pivotal life verse.
Doug is preceded in death by his father, James Koehn, and his sister, Jeanie (Koehn) Stamm.
