George Evanoika passed away July 27, 2018.
George was born to Steve and Anna Evanoika on June 9, 1934. He grew up in Ramah, Colorado.
He later married Betty Manyik on November 14, 1954.
For about 20 years, George was involved with 4-H as a leader, part of the Steering Committee and the Ringmaster at the El Paso County Fair. He served on the Soil Conservation Board. George worked for Lasater Ranch in Matheson, Colorado, Benjamin Ranch in Simla, Colorado, Valli Hi in Evergreen, Colorado before purchasing his own ranch in Peyton, Colorado in 1968. George then started his Excavation Business in the early 70’s.
He clearly enjoyed ranching but also enjoyed going hunting and dancing. He truly loved his family and spending time with them.
George has been mentioned for his ranching in two books: Tail Wind Both Ways, a Cowman’s Chronicle by Laurence M. Lasater and Horseman Brand of a Legend by Hugh Bennet which sits in The Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.
George is survived by his spouse of 63 years Betty Evanoika; his daughters Doris Hildreth of Peyton, Colorado, Donna Evanoika of Peyton, Colorado, and Rhonda Evanoika of Falcon, Colorado. Siblings Betty (Ray) Brooks of Peyton, Colorado, Dave (Peggy) Evanoika of Montrose, Colorado, and Rita Evanoika of Ramah, Colorado. Others surviving him are his grandchildren Casey Fernau and Paizley Fernau.
He is preceded in death by his parents Steve (Anna) Evanoika, daughter Diana Evanoika, siblings John (Lottie) Evanoika, Ted (Carol) Evanoika and Steve Evanoika.
Services will be held at St. Mary’s Holy Dormition Orthodox Church in Calhan, Colorado on Friday August 3, 2018 at 10a.m. with burial following at Sproch Cemetery in Ramah, Colorado. The Rosary (Panikhida will be Thursday August 2, 2018 at 6:00p.m. at the St. Mary’s Holy Dormition Orthodox Church.
