George O. Huntoon

May 24, 1942 — August 2, 2018

George Oren Huntoon, 76, died August 2, 2018 surrounded by his family at his residence in Bennett, Colorado.  He was born May 24, 1942, in Franklin, New Hampshire to Dorothy Phyllis Huntoon.

George served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from December 1960 to November 1965 which included a tour in Vietnam. At the time of the JFK Assassination George worked as an Undertaker for the mortuary that provided the casket for transferring JFK's body. After the military, George became active in firefighting. He was member the Plano, Texas Fire Department from 1972 to 1976 and the Longview Fire Department from 1976 to 1980. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Colorado where he worked in various fields which included cooking at the Tomahawk Truck Stop, cleaning components at OEA, owning his own small engine repair business and, eventually, providing security for King Soopers. Colorado is where he met and married Marie on June 27, 1981.

George pursued many interests and hobbies over the years. He enjoyed cooking, restoring his vintage VW Bug, operating his ham radio and taking care of animals; especially dogs. His children inherited his love of cooking and his affection for animals. And, he continued his interest in fire fighting by serving on the board of the Bennett Fire Department.

George is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marie of Bennett, CO, his children Shauna Larkins Galloway and husband, Wayne, of Dennison, TX, Therese Moler of Watkins, CO, Tinnetta Huntoon-Kirby of Denison, TX, George Oren Huntoon, Jr. and wife, Melissa Huntoon of Pottsburo, TX, Beth Huntoon of Denison, TX, Brandy McConnell and husband, Matt of Albuquerque, NM, 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
