Gerald Cloy “Jerre” Wethington was born on August 30th, 1945 at 12:20 am to Gerald Herbert and Constance Irene Wethington. He was born at the US Navy Hospital on North Island in California. They moved back to Delta, Colorado to be close to family in 1946. Jerre grew up in Delta, attending Delta schools and graduated from Delta High School in 1963. Four days later Jerre entered the US Navy where he proudly served for almost nine years. While in the Navy Jerre completed A, B, and C schools to become a Fire Control Technician. He served on the USS Sargo, USS Snook, and USS Remora submarines. While in the Navy he completed three tours in Vietnam. During this time, Jerre married his high school sweetheart Sharon Wright. They had three children Deann, Brian, and Michael. Jerre realized he had found an interest in computers, so after leaving the Navy he explored that interest landing a position at Colorado Ute Utility Company in Montrose, Colorado. He worked in this position for 18 years, before moving to Garden City, Kansas to work for Sunflower Electric Power Corporation as a Computer Systems Analyst. After moving to Garden City, Jerre and Sharon divorced. Jerre held a second job at The Grain Bin Supper Club, where he met and befriended Carol Porter. They married April 21, 1995 at which time Jerre became dad to Erica, Katie, Cody, and Sarah. They lived in Garden City until Jerre’s retirement in 2008. At that time, Carol and Jerre relocated to Grand Junction, Colorado where Jerre enjoyed golf, woodworking, and fishing in his free time. Jerre was blessed with ten grandchildren Megan, Matthew, Maresa, Wyatt, Brevyn, Macklin, Hayden, Macy, Malcolm, and Joey.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of the home, his seven children and ten grandchildren along with two brothers and three sisters.
A celebration of Jerre’s life will be held at Mountain View Fellowship Church in Strasburg, Colorado. Arrangements are being made by Love Funeral Home.
