Gregorita E. Sandoval

Gregorita (Greggie) Sandoval, 94, of Byers, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Byers, CO. Greggie was born November 17, 1929 in Alamogordo, NM. Due to a tragic accident at the age of 2, she became blind. She graduated high school from New Mexico School for the Blind, May 16, 1951.

She operated a concessions stand for several years at the Taos County Courthouse in New Mexico. In 1972 she moved to Denver, CO with her husband Tony and her daughter Mary. She worked as a teacher of Braille at the Colorado Rehabilitation Center in Denver for 23 years until her retirement in 1996. In 2015, Greggie moved to Byers, CO, to live with her daughter, Mary. Greggie was a very independent, enthusiastic, and good natured person with a bright smile, and a good sense of humor. She enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing, knitting, weaving, and reading Braille books, and Talking Books for the Blind.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Phillip Archuleta of Santa Fe, NM; Eufenio Archuleta of Santa Fe, NM; Juanandres Archuleta of Santa Fe, NM; her sister Lucy Archuleta of Espanola, NM; her nephew Ben Archuleta of Denver, CO; and her husband Tony Sandoval of Ogallala, NE. She is survived by her daughter Mary Dunahue and her husband Cory of Byers, CO; her great niece Felicia Archuleta of Denver, CO; and her nieces Gerri Archuleta of Santa Fe, NM and Angie Archuleta of Espanola, NM.
