Helen McCormick of Flagler passed away at her home on Wednesday September 9, 2026.
Helen was born to John and Anna Green in their home on June 2, 1926, in Mosca, Colorado.
The family moved to Stratton in 1930. Helen attended St. Charles Academy for elementary school and graduated from Stratton High School 1945 as her class Valedictorian. She then taught at Blakeman Country School for three years. She married Joe McCormick on October 25th, 1947. They celebrated 75 wedding anniversaries.
In April of 1948, they moved to the farm they purchased six miles north of Flagler. As young farm owners, Joe and Helen did whatever it took to make a living. They sold cream, eggs and poultry. Over the years they made continuous improvements to their land and expanded their operation. Helen was the consummate farmer’s wife. Besides caring for their children, she cooked the meals, kept the house, did the books, and chores around the farm.
In 1949 they were blessed with birth of their first child, Don. His sister Jeanne arrived a year later. As the farming operation grew, so did the family. Lee was born in 1953, Karen 1956, Danny 1961, and Kenny 1964.
In 1994 Joe and Helen built a new home in Flagler and moved to town. Helen enjoyed being in town as she was a member of the Gingham Girls, a book club, and the Red Hats club. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Center for meals twice a week.
Helen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic parish where she played the organ for over seven decades. As her sight failed, she played everything from memory or by ear until she could no longer see the keys on the organ.
Helen is survived by her children, son Don, daughter Jeanne (Ron) Wieser, son Lee, daughter Karen (Tom) Arensdorf, son Danny, and son Kenny (Liz) all of Flagler. She is also survived by her sisters Jeanne and Magdalene Green, three sisters in-laws Dorthy McCormick, Louise McCormick and Lolita Ramos, many nephews and nieces, 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. She was loved by all.
Helen loved her catholic faith, her husband, and all of her family.
Contributions can be made to Lincoln County Hospice, 111 6th Street, Hugo, CO 80821.
