Huldah V. Igou

June 8, 1928 — October 30, 2023

Huldah Virginia Monks Sellon Igou was born on June 8th, 1928 in Cooper County, Missouri to her father Roy Monks and mother Edith V. Monks. 9 brothers and 3 sisters were born to this union. Huldah has many fond memories growing up including the long winters, dust storms and most importantly the “long bench and table” where all family would gather together for meal time. Her father passed away at the age of 7 years old and through a few moves her mother settled the family in Limon to purchase a home and fix it up. Huldah recalls finally having electricity was the high light. Later on Huldah met Art Sellon of Hugo through friends. They became close and married on July 25, 1947, setting up their first homestead near Genoa, Colorado.

Three years later on April 16th, 1950 they were blessed with their first child, a son, they named Jerry Lane. Further down the road on August 5th, 1957 they adopted a baby girl not quite a year old and named her Beth Ann, unfortunately not long after they would lose her to a farm equipment accident. The family found the strength to continue on and complete their family and in 1960 they had the opportunity to adopt 3 beautiful girls who were sisters. Jerry Lane wanted them to have matching names, so the girls were renamed and now known as Janet Lea, Jane Lynn and Jill Louann.

Their family was now one unit, learned to love, survive and depend on each other. Art and Huldah went on to purchase a 640 acre farm south of Hugo, Colorado in 1960, where they continued to raise their children, growing wheat, raising cattle, pigs and chickens. Huldah sold Mary Kay, taught sewing lessons, 4-H sewing leader and judge and had made the cheerleading uniforms and pep squad uniforms for Hugo High School. Huldah’s hobbies were many including some, Bridge Club, Bingo, gambling, scratch tickets, cooking, baking, knitting, trips to the mountains to see the leaves change and collecting rocks and driftwood.

Huldah had many mottos throughout her life that she lived by not limited to “The word can’t doesn’t exist”, “Everyday accomplish something”, and “If you got it out, put it back.” Huldah later in 1994 she remarried to Don Igou.

Huldah is survived by Jerry Sellon (Candi) of Goshen, Indiana, Janet Arnold (Gene) of Lutz, Florida, Jane Butler of Limon, Colorado, Jill Lockhart (Steve) of Cotopaxi, Colorado and many Grandchildren, Great- Grandchildren and Great-Great grandchildren.
