James E. Eurich

James Edwin “Jimmy” Eurich of Ramah, Colorado passed away August 27, 2026, in Colorado Springs. He was born to John and Dorothy (Evans) Eurich on June 7, 1938, at the Tomko family homestead. He grew up attending Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ramah where he was an altar boy. He graduated from Ramah High School in 1956.

He married Joan Ausec in September of 1958, and the young couple started their family the following summer.

Jim’s passion was working with horses and cattle. He loved sports of all kinds, both as a competitor and as a spectator. During his school years, he participated in basketball, swimming, and was a player/coach in baseball but soon rodeo became his favorite. He taught himself to bulldog using a barb wire fence as his hazer. His little brother Bob also remembers being roped for practice. Team roping was his main event, and he was happy working a full day and then heading to the arena to rope until it was too dark to see the cattle. Jim was also a skilled carpenter and worked in just about every aspect of construction.

A gifted horseman and a talented trainer, Jim was known for his ability to start colts, whether for rodeo, ranch work, or horse racing. He was proud that most years his group of yearling cattle would bring “top dollar”. Throughout his life, Jim worked various jobs on ranches, feedlots, sale barns, and racetracks. He was a true cowboy, on the ranch or in the arena.

His other passion was his family. Especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved visiting with them and going to ball games when he could. He was always bragging about their abilities and the funny things that they said and did. He loved any and all family get togethers. Jim enjoyed the good food, telling stories, and playing pitch.

Jim was definitely a storyteller and a “people person.” If you met him just once, 10 years later he would greet you by name. Jim seemed to know people in every corner of the state, and wherever he went, no matter how random or obscure, someone would yell out, “Jimmy!” He leaves behind many who will miss his friendship and kindness.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; his brother, Ray; and a baby son who passed away shortly after birth. He is survived by his brother Bob of Westminster, and his pride and joy, his children, Vicky of Kiowa; Jim of Fort Collins; Cindy of Louisiana; and Ann (Brent) of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Also surviving are Jim’s grandchildren, Kathy (CW) of Milliken; Missy and her children Kaden, Leah Marie, and Kallen of Eaton; and Alyssa of Raleigh, North Carolina. Jim was blessed with the company of all of these relatives who were by his side and on the phone to cheer and support him throughout his brief illness, along with his cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends who brightened his days in person and with calls and cards.
