James (Jim) F. Sherrill was born to Pearl Sherrill and Edith Coonts on December 2, 1936 in Hugo, Colorado. James passed away August 20, 2018 at the Medical Center of Aurora in Aurora, Colorado.
Jim lived in Agate, Colorado and attended school up to ninth grade, then preceded with finishing and graduating from Byers High School. Following high school, Jim attended college at the University of Northern Colorado where he received his Associates Degree and was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Jim was very active in the Byers Community. Being the owner of the Golden Spike for 46 years made him very well known. Among that, Jim was also an Insurance Agent for his own company “Sherrill Insurance Agency”, he was one of the original founders of the Quint Valley Golf Course, President of the Byers Booster Club, he volunteered for the fire department, was a homebuilder for Golden Spike Construction, he was the announcer for the Byers Football games, and also belonged to the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club. Jim met and married Nancy his wife of 62 years June 9, 1956 in Greeley Colorado. Nancy and Jim had four children together. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survived by his wife Nancy of Byers, one daughter Pam (Dennis) Post of Byers, and one son Jason (Tamara) Sherrill of Windsor, Brother Ralph (Pauline) Sherrill of Englewood, and many other relatives including 18 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by two children, Chris Sherrill and Cindy Sherrill, a brother Larry, and a granddaughter Raelyn.
A public visitation will be held Saturday August 25, 2018 at the Byers Gymnasium at 10:00 A.M. with funeral services following at 11:00 A.M. interment at Byers Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Quint Valley Golf Course, P.O. Box 642, Byers, Colorado 80103.
