Joseph Henry Jenkins age 83 of Peyton, Colorado passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado from natural causes after battling heart & lung failure and a broken leg. He was born on July 14, 1938 near Ordway, Colorado. The son of Joseph and Mabel (Cloud) Jenkins, Joe attended Ordway High School and graduated in 1958. Joe married Alice Hartleroad, shared over twenty-four years of marriage and was blessed to have raised six children on the Jenkins Ranches in Colorado, and various leased ranches near Plevna, Mill Iron and Ekalaka, Montana. Joe remarried to Mary Dooley in Las Vegas in 1983 and had 25 years of marriage. Joe then had a long term relationship with Patricia Ann Ballensky who supported him during the twilight of his life and thru the health issues, being with him when he passed away at the hospital.
Joe returned to Colorado Springs in early 1980’s, became a Heavy Equipment
Operator with Operating Engineers Local Union No. 9 – Colorado, where he
worked operating scrapers – cats – road graders and loaders until his retirement in
2015. Joe enjoyed competing in amateur Team Roping, winning championship
saddles, etc. Joe leased additional pasture and raised cattle until his death. Joe
also had a hay business from his residence near Peyton, Colorado until his death.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Mabel (Cloud) Jenkins, brothers Larry Jenkins + Paul Jenkins, and his first wife Alice Bell Hartleroad (Jenkins). Joeis survived by his significant other Pat Ballensky, by his children Cindy Jenkins (Miller) of Phoenix, Arizona and her daughters Leona & Nettie. Jerry Lee Jenkins of Las Vegas, Nevada, Gary Jenkins (Vera) & their daughter Natalie – great grandsons Timur & Dylan, Carolyn Jenkins-Guerrero (Gene) of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter Desirae (Aaron) Rathbone – Children Braeden & Addison, Son Zackeria Lyman; John and Joe Jenkins – Phoenix, Arizona. Siblings; Bonnie Hoover (Floyd), Bill Jenkins (Marlyn) Johnny Jenkins (Judy), along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
