In Loving Memory of Karen J. Kerksiek
Honoring a Remarkable Life
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Kerksiek. She was a cherished member of our family, known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support. Karen brought joy to everyone she met, always offering a listening ear and a comforting smile.
Karen was born in Greeley, Colorado, to William and Elsa Kerksiek on April 1st, 1944. She was raised on the family farm north of Strasburg. After graduating from Strasburg High School, she attended CU Boulder, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked in Grand Junction as a social worker for a short time, then moved to the Washington Park area in Denver to start her career for the Colorado Department of Labor until her retirement.
Her passion for life was evident in all that she did — from the loving care she gave her family to the friendships she nurtured throughout her years. She will be remembered for her musical talent on the piano, love of hiking and traveling, generosity, her laughter, and her ability to make every gathering feel special.
We celebrated Karen’s 82nd birthday on April 1st, and she passed on April 18th from Alzheimer’s. She is survived by a brother, Bill Kerksiek (JoAnn); two sisters, Charlotte Kerksiek and Mary Lewis (Clyde), all of Strasburg; along with many nieces and nephews. Though we mourn her loss, we take comfort in the many wonderful memories she leaves behind. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
