Katheryn Louise Vetter

Katheryn Louise Vetter, 75, passed away on June 12, 2023, in Rawlins County, Kansas.  She was born to Elvid Monroe Lawrence and Florine Inez (Meseraull) on July 9, 1947, in Brighton, Colorado, the youngest of three daughters.  The family later moved to Kiowa, Colorado, to ranch and dairy. She started school at Kiowa, and finished her last two years in Bennett, Colorado. Some of her fondest memories were spent in Kiowa.

Kathy exhibited strong work habits and was fiercely loyal to her family which carried her throughout her life.

On December 31, 1964, she married Ted Vetter.  They settled on a dryland farm north of Bennett where they grew mostly wheat and raised cattle. While working on the farm, she still had time for a yard and house that were always immaculate.  Ted and Kathy always took Sunday off to spend time with family, giving their children a wonderful childhood.

In July of 1966, they welcomed their son, Ronald Ted, and then their daughter, Denise Diane, in June of 1972.

Tragically on June 12, 1985, after 20 years of marriage, Ted was killed in an accident.  Kathy and her two children then worked the farm together, later adding bison to the operation.

Kathy also worked at the First National Bank of Strasburg for a few years where she enjoyed interacting with people, especially people she had known for years.

Kathy also earned her realtor’s license, which she worked hard for.

When Ron moved to Nebraska, Kathy sold the farm and moved to rural Quay County, New Mexico, then to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and eventually to Strasburg, Colorado for a short time. She then moved to Lodgepole, Nebraska, and again raised cattle with her son, Ron.

Kathy finally retired in 2017 and moved to be near her daughter Denise and her family in rural Rawlins County, Kansas.  She was always there to help in any way she could whether it was hauling cattle to grass, watching kids and grandkids, or cooking a meal.  She loved spending time with her family and had a great sense of humor. The grandkids and great-grandkids absolutely adored their Grandma Kathy. She also enjoyed her two dogs, Winston and Pepper, who were her constant companions.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an older sister, Jean Schol, and a nephew, Herman Schol.

Left to mourn her passing are her children Ronald (Nancy) of Pittsburg, TX, and Denise (Patrick) Cozza of rural Rawlins County, KS. Her grandkids Kayla (Michael) Pettibone of Colby, KS, Garrett Vetter of Kearney, NE, Dillon Cozza of rural Rawlins County, KS, and Samantha Cozza of Goodland, KS, a sister Elaine (Wilbur) Davis of Colorado Springs, CO, 2 great-granddaughters Carter and Addie of Colby, KS, a niece, Terry Best of Roswell, NM, and two nephews Roger (Dale) Davis of LaJunta, CO, and Robert (Tamie) Schol of Minatare, NE.

Kathy will be greatly missed and will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Bennett, Colorado, at Mount View Cemetery.
