Former Stratton, Colorado resident Laura Elizabeth McCormick-Lohr passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at her home in Pawnee Rock, Kansas. She was 56 years old. She was born March 25, 1961 in Flagler, Colorado, the daughter of Thomas and Sylvia McCormick. She was one of three children born to this union. She grew up around Stratton, Colorado and graduated from Stratton High School in 1979. She then went on to attend college in Laramie, Wyoming. She also attended and graduated from Barton County Community College. She went on to continue her college at Fort Hays State University and then transferred to Wichita State University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in social work. She married Steve Sanders on October 2, 1987 and to this union they were blessed with their daughter, Chelsea who was born on July 6, 1988. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Laura was a social worker for the Department of Children and Families in Kansas. Laura had a huge passion for her job and especially taking care of the children she worked with. She was also a licensed substance abuse counselor. On June 6, 2002 she married Richard (Tom) Lohr who resides in Pawnee Rock, Kansas. She loved to spend time with her grandkids, traveling and seeing new places, spending time with her beloved pets, horses, all her ferrets, cat; Haley and two rats; Buster and Moby. She is preceded in death by her parents; Tom and Sylvia McCormick, brother Michael McCormick, sister-in-law Tammy McCormick, along with several aunts and uncles. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Richard of Pawnee Rock, Kansas, daughter Chelsea (Justin) Hoffman of Burdett, Kansas, step-son Rick (Sandi) Lohr of Arkansas City, Kansas, brother John (Deena) McCormick of Hillrose, Colorado, grandchildren Ryleigh, Kaydance, Mason, Skylar, Addison of Burdett, Kansas and Derek (Alexandria) Lohr. Also surviving her are nephews; Brad McCormick and Justin Foos and a niece Ashley McCormick.
