LaVelle Marie Smith was born in Garden City, Kansas, to Hazel and Lee Smith. In 1948 the family moved to Flagler, Colorado. Then in 1955 the family moved to Greeley, Colorado and LaVelle was graduated from Greeley High School in 1959.
After high school LaVelle married Nathan (Sonny) Wright. To this union four children were born: Donald Perry, Marty Lane, Buck Allen and Deanna Lynn.
While raising her children, LaVelle worked at the 3M Company in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She received a degree in Engineering from Rose College in Midwest City, Oklahoma, to advance her career in Quality Control. LaVelle retired after working for 3M for 20 years. Then she bought a truck and was a professional truck driver for 10 years.
She married her life long friend, Melvin (Buddy) Steele on June 10, 2000. LaVelle and Buddy lived in Berthoud, Colorado, until Buddy passed away in 2016. In late 2016 LaVelle moved back to Flagler into the family home.
She was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Hazel Smith, her husband Buddy, her son Buck, two brothers Ted and Johnnie and Johnnie’s wife, Bennie and Deanna’s son Kyle.
She is survived by one sister, Farabe Smith, one sister-in-law, Martha Smith, many nieces and nephews and their families and many friends including her special friend Betty Hatfield.
