Laverna Jean Haines, life-long resident of Burlington, passed away August 14, 2022. She was born Laverna Jean Hines to Harold M. Hines and Carrie (Wooley) Hines on the farm Northeast of Burlington.
Older brother Merlin and sister, Virgie welcomed this tiny little baby to the family. She was so little that she fit into a shoe box. Laverna attended school in Kanorado, Kansas and everyone called her “Jeanie”.
In 1948, Jeanie met and married the love of her life, Wallace C. Haines, who had returned from the Navy. It was easy to change her name by just adding one letter. Wally and Jeanie welcomed four children from this union, Sherry, Galen, Nick and Lonny, to which also gave her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They, along with their husbands and wives, brought much joy to her life and she was a joy to the entire family.
Jeanie enjoyed working at the hospital and at Zimbelman’s Jewelry.
After losing her son Galen and husband Wally, she found comfort in going out for coffee and she always looked forward to visiting her friends at the Senior Center.
Jeanie was very proud to be a “life-long” resident of Burlington and often boasted that her community held the best people in the world.
It was Jeanie's wishes not to have a Memorial Service but to be remembered they way she lived.
