Mary Olive Jackson was born on February 11, 1936, and passed away at the Hugo Hospital with family by her side on November 14th, 2024.

She was born to John Dewey Jackson and Reva Grace (Braly) Jackson at home north of Vona. She was the fourth child born to the couple. Mary attended elementary school north of Vona at Plainview country school. She graduated from Vona High School in 1954 as a valedictorian of her class.

In her youth Mary was active in 4H specializing in sewing and canning. She also enjoyed playing clarinet in the school band and cheerleading. She was crowned homecoming queen her senior year. 

Mary married Robert E. McCaffrey on June 1st, 1954, in a heartfelt ceremony at her parents' home. Mary was a devoted homemaker, dedicating 70 years to life on the farm before transitioning to Aspen Leaf Assisted Living in Flagler in July of 2024. Her unwavering commitment to her family and home was evident in every aspect of her life, reflecting her deep-rooted values and nurturing spirit. Mary was actively involved in various community organizations, including the Shiloh Club, the Country Capers Group, the Ladies Bible Group, and the Seibert Action Committee. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and later the First Congregational Church. Robert and Mary were a familiar presence at numerous High Plains sports games, always cheering on their local teams with enthusiasm. 

Mary embarked on numerous adventures with her sisters and friends, creating cherished memories along the way. She relished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding joy in their laughter and milestones. Additionally, Mary had a passion for genealogy; she dedicated herself to researching the subject and maintained meticulous records of her findings.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Robert McCaffrey, her parents, father and mother-in-law, Francis (Hazel) McCaffrey, her brother Paul (Shirley) Jackson, sister Betty May (Vaughn) Monroe, brother in laws Dale Keith, Rod Morberg, Francis Junior (Neva) McCaffrey, Darrell (Pauline) McCaffrey, Wayne (Fern) McCaffrey, and Kenneth (Ethel) McCaffrey.

She is survived by her sons, Bert and Mary McCaffrey of Wellington, CO, and Daniel and Lori McCaffrey of Seibert, CO. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Candice Johnson of Wellington, CO; Nathan and Emily McCaffrey of Vona, CO; Brittany and Craig O’Hair of Coldwater, Kansas; and Sean and Alyssa McCaffrey of Wellington, CO. Additionally, she is cherished by her great-grandchildren: Cierra, Braiden, and Ashton Johnson of Wellington; Amber and Austin McCaffrey of Vona; Rylee and Aubree O’Hair of Coldwater; and Eliana, Frankie, Charlie, and Luke McCaffrey of Wellington.

She is also survived by her sisters Annabelle Keith of Brighton and Virgene Morberg of Eagle Rock, California and several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will take place at the Love Funeral Home in Limon on Friday, November 22nd, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 23rd, at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church in Flagler, with interment to follow at Seibert Cemetery.
