Ora C. Hughes

Ora Claude Hughes was born to Bennie and Dorothy Hughes on May 30, 1942 in Flagler, CO.  He passed away at Lincoln Community Hospital on March 11, 2024.

He was the 4th of 10 children, Alice, Nora, Judy, Dixie, Cheryl, Cora, William (Billy), Kenneth and Bennie Elias.  

  He attended Flagler Public School to the 11th grade and then enlisted in the Navy in 1959.  And there he received his GED.  He served in the Navy for 22 years.

On November 24, 1962, He married Janet Masaki in a small church in Honolulu, Hawaii where Ora was serving in the U.S. Navy.  To this union three children were born, Shawn, Keith and Tracy.  They shared over 49 years of marriage together.

They moved back to Colorado in 1985, living in Flagler and Arriba.  Ora  worked at the Ace Hardware for 12 years before retiring.  

  Ora and Janet spent a lot of time working events in Flagler by taking tickets at the American Legion for basketball tournaments, homecoming dances and whatever else came along.  they also ran the clubhouse at the golf course.  

  They also babysat for Adam Brandt, Taylor Bredehoft, Trent Jones and Logan Cordell.  They treated them like their own.

  Ora is survived by his son Keith of Flagler, Tracy Rodrigues of Las Vegas, NV and 13 grandchildren, sisters; Alice Cole (Ray), Judy Martin both of Flagler; brother Kenneth Hughes (Kathy) of Omaha, NE and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. 

Ora was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; parents, Dorothy and Bennie Hughes; son, Shawn Hughes; brothers, Bennie Elias Hughes, William (Billy) Hughes; sisters, Nora Clements, Dixie Hughes, Cheryl Hutchinson and Cora Hughes.

  Viewing will be Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Flagler Baptist Church.  The services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Dan Brent officiating.  Private Inurnment will be at a later date.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Community Ambulance Service, PO Box 101, Flagler, CO 80815.
