Richard "Rick" L. Cuthbert, Jr.

September 14, 1955 — August 27, 2018

Richard Leroy Cuthbert JR (Ricky) passed from this life on Monday, August 27th, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his son Patrick at his side. Ricky is survived by his son Patrick, daughter-in-law Melody, and 3 grandchildren of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his Mother Barbara Clemmons Cuthbert and 4 siblings.

Rick was born September 14th, 1955 in Biloxi, MS to Dick and Barbara Cuthbert while Dick was stationed at Keesler AFB. After Dick’s release from the USAF, he moved his wife and Rick back to Flagler, CO to be near Barbara’s late parents, Dwight and Betty Clemmons and her brother Larry of Flagler.

Rick attended Flagler’s school system until age 12 when his Father was moved to San Jose, CA as a US Postal Inspector. Soon after in 1969, Dick was moved again to Los Angeles, CA where Rick graduated High School at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, CA and where he met his late wife, Debra Card.

Upon graduation from High School, Rick packed up Debbie on his 1973 Honda 100 and drove to St. George, Utah where they married. After their marriage, Rick and Debbie continued their trip back to Flagler where he went to work for his grandfather Dwight Clemmons at the Tip Top Service Case Tractor Dealership. Larry and Dwight Clemmons remodeled the old Sweets home on the north end of Flagler where Rick and Debbie set up home.

Rick and Debbie moved to Goodland, KS to work as a farm hand. Shortly thereafter, Patrick was born. Rick continued his education and earned an Associated Degree in Civil Engineering. Upon completion of his Associates Degree, Rick, Debbie, and Patrick moved to Grand Junction, CO where he found employment as a civil engineer draftsman where he taught himself CAD/CAM engineering software and became indispensable to the companies that he worked for as the CAD/CAM expert in a new method of engineering and design. Rick was responsible for designing lush neighborhoods in Telluride and conducting inspections on the state’s dam and aquafer systems.

Rick fell ill in 2014 and lost his ability to work. He moved in with Dwight and Pam Cuthbert in Gilbert, AZ where he reconnected with family knowing that his illness was terminal. When he became too ill, Rick was moved into an assisted living facility near his son in Tulsa, OK in 2016. Rick’s health deteriorated in August and was visited one last time by his 82 year old Mother, Barbara, now of Olympia, WA.

Rick was the oldest of seven children and joins his Grandparents Dwight and Betty Clemmons, his Father Dick Cuthbert, his Brother Kelly Gene Cuthbert, and his sister Valerie Anne Cuthbert in peaceful repose at Flagler Cemetery. He is finally home in Flagler, the place we all call home. Rick will be missed by all who knew him as a wise, quiet, and humorous man. In lieu of flowers, Rick asks that his friends and family enjoy a nice home cooked meal together acknowledging the importance he placed on family and time spent with them.

A small gathering of friends and family will follow after the graveside services at the Flagler Baptist Church.
