Robert Joseph Emmerling (Bob) of Aurora, Colorado, passed away at the age of 67 at his home on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026. Bob was born in Lake Arrowhead, California, and adopted by Velma and Swede Emmerling of Limon, Colorado. Bob, an only child, had a full and meaningful childhood. Bob was involved in the Rocking 4H Club. In 1969, at the age of 11, he trained his first shorthorn steer for the Lincoln County Fair. He won many awards showing livestock in Limon and at the Colorado State Fair. Bob graduated from Limon High School and played football for the Badgers. After high school, he attended Colorado State University. Bob moved to California in 1983 where he married Lynda; together they had one child, Leigh Ann.
In 2005, he returned to Colorado to care for his beloved mother, Velma. In 2007, he began working for Southwest Airlines. Bob was known for his radiant personality, which was one of his most influential qualities. He never met a stranger and had the opportunity to shake hands with many gifted individuals and athletes. It was there that he eventually met his wife, Lettie. Together, they traveled the United States, living a highly active life. They later retired together in 2024.
Bob had a luster for life. Cycling was one of Bob’s great passions and he participated in many races throughout the Denver Colorado area. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed taking Leigh Ann to baseball games and coaching her softball games. Bob loved live music, watching sports, taking his grandchildren on adventures and teaching his oldest ones how to drive. Bob was a whiskey connoisseur. He had a bright love of life and shared that with his family.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of ten years, Lettie; daughter, Leigh Ann (Mike) and her children Charlotte, Addison and Brooklyn; bonus children, Elisabeth (Logan), William (Anna), Hael, Matthew (Silvia); and six bonus grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of family, and the joys he embraced. His memory will be carried forward with every bicycle ride, breath of fresh air from the open outdoors, roaring cheer of the game, savored sip of Gentlemen’s Jack, and warmth from the sunrise. He will be deeply missed and loved forever.
Memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society, specifically for pancreatic cancer research.
