Rodney Kirk Barnes went to be with the Lord on January 9th, 2026. Rodney was born January 11th 1961 in Montrose, Colorado. He resided in Calhan, Colorado from 1967 until his death in 2026.
While working in the oil rigs and sandblasting, at 15 years of age, he started also working in the construction industry. Rodney did not enjoy school. But, teaching his trade to “school boys” has shaped many young people in their work ethic.
Rodney owned his construction business, Barnes Construction, for over 35 years. He took great pride in his work, and in doing so, he made a big impact on many lives. He was very well known for doing custom foundations, concrete flat work, remodeling and custom homes. He was a hardworking and strong businessman, but also an amazing father, grandfather and friend.
Rodney decided later to a semi-retirement from construction, and started working for Peyton School doing maintenance. He found many fond memories there and really enjoyed his time there. Rodney enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting guns, gardening and spending quality time with family and friends. He raised heeler puppies in his younger years, enjoyed them and always had one by his side up until his last day. When he became a grandfather, it became one of his biggest treasures. He loved his three “grand-girls” so much, and made sure he supported, and was with them as much as possible. Rodney was a wonderful man and will truly be missed by so many.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Harvey Barnes and Lillian (Freeman) Barnes, brother Jack Barnes, sister Peggy Lukas and many other close family and friends.
He is survived by his two sons Dustin (Amy) Barnes of Calhan, CO and Ethen (Kirsten Cranor) Barnes of Gunnison, CO, three grandchildren Kylee, Charlee, and Mckenlee Barnes of Calhan, CO, brother Doug (Pat) Barnes, sisters Margie (Kevin) Miller, Barbara (Jerry) Eurich, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time in the spring.
