On April 30, 2025 Rose Marie Henry, 87, of Genoa, Colorado, graduated into her heavenly home to at last see her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her friend and earthly husband, Donald Henry, and countless friends and family that have gone before her. She left her earthly body at the James Nall home in Hugo, Colorado, where she had been living for the past three and a half years.
She was born on May 30, 1937, to Floyd and Florance (Larson) Howe at their home a mile north of Genoa, where she was raised to adulthood. Rose learned to sew her first garment when she was six years old and sewed many beautiful prom and wedding dresses for young ladies through the years. She learned to read at four years old and was an avid reader throughout her life.
She had gone home in second grade and told her parents that she was going to marry Don Henry when she grew up, which I'm sure drew a few chuckles. On Oct 17, 1956, shortly after graduating from Genoa Public School, she married her sweetheart, Donald Ray Henry, the boy she had said she would marry so long ago. While Don was at boot camp, her father-in-law, Ray Henry, taught her to drive, a gift that would prove to be very helpful as they navigated through 22 years of army life.
Rose and Donald were both devout Christians, serving God wherever they went during their military assignments and invited many lonely soldiers into their home. Mom would cook homemade meals, make cupcakes, and have a large container of coffee for the men. Dad would take our station wagon around bases, filling it full of soldiers to bring home, where they would have Bible studies, sing, and pray. Grateful mothers would sometimes send checks to help defray costs after their boys wrote home telling of their experiences at the Henry home.
Rose also enjoyed working with the cub scouts, girl scouts and was a Sunday school teacher as well as church secretary, treasurer and worked on church committees. After coming back from their last overseas military tour to Germany, she decided to take nurse's aide training in Kansas and later became a med aide. When Dad retired and we moved back to Colorado, she continued being a nurse's aide, later became a certified nurse's aide, and worked with rehabilitation at Lincoln Community Hospital and Nursing Home in Hugo, Colorado. She also enjoyed embroidery and making doll clothes and quilts.
Rose was always someone her kids could go to for advice, love, and comfort. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was truly a wise and devoted mother. Beloved mother of daughters: Deana (James) Nall of Hugo, CO, and Amy (Mark) Riemenschneider of Genoa, CO, and sons: Raymond (Doris) Henry of Limon, CO and John (Michelle) Henry of Thornton, CO. To mourn her, Rose leaves her children as well as twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her brother, Dean (Sharon) Howe and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceasing Rose are her parents, half-sister, four brothers, a granddaughter, and many other relatives. Funeral services will be at Love Funeral Home in Limon, Colorado on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Genoa Community Cemetery near Genoa, Colorado. Love gifts collected will be given to help the handicapped children in this area. They can be made payable to Deana Nall at P.O. Box 495 Hugo, CO 80821. This cause was one that was close to Rose's heart, since she has grandchildren and great-grandchildren with disabilities.
