Susan Katherine Linnebur

June 28, 1932 — May 2, 2018

Susan (Susie) Katherine Linnebur, 85 of Byers, Colorado, passed away on May 2, 2018 at her home with family at her side.

Susie was born on June 28, 1932, in Denver, Colorado to John and Anna Ciberay.  Around the age of two, she was placed in St. Clara’s Orphanage in Denver and stayed there for a short time.  George and Elizabeth Sigg of Roggen, Colorado, took three year-old Susie into their home; adopting her at the age of 12.  Susie spoke highly of her adoptive parents, her Catholic upbringing and the work ethic instilled into both her and her siblings.  Growing up she felt blessed as her parents kept her in contact with her biological brothers.

In 1950, Susie graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Wichita, KS.  After high school, she worked at the Lamar Hospital and the Keenesburg Bank.  On October 9, 1954, Susie married Emmett Linnebur.  They started their life together on a farm east of Byers and were blessed with eight children:  Margie, Ben, Chris, Bernadette, Joe, Jeff, Susanne and Traci.

Susie was a wife, mother, homemaker, and a hard worker. Asking any of her kids, she was described as a “busy lady.” She was constantly on the move, running errands either in town or around the house. No matter what Susie did, it was to the best of her ability. Raising eight children was both a challenge and a blessing, and she would gladly do it all over again.

For over 30 years she assisted Emmett with farming operations and after his passing, Susie became a manager.  Alongside her sons she took on this endeavor learning the business side of farming.  She remained committed to doing what was best for the farm.   Above all, Susie had a strong Catholic faith and a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ.  She would remind her family that their purpose in life was “to know him, to love him and to serve him”.  Susie said a rosary daily and also prayed to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Anthony.  For many years, Susie was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Parish Council at Our Lady of the Plains.  She was a simple lady with faith, family and the farm serving as her roadmap through life.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Linnebur, children Bernadette Savoie and Jeff Linnebur, her granddaughter Dayna Schepis and great granddaughter, Tiffany Baggs.

Susie is survived by her children Margie Linnebur (David Eastwood), Ben Linnebur, Chris (Wendy) Linnebur, Joe Linnebur, Susanne (Mike) Card, Traci (Brad) Weisensee, daughter-in-law Deanne Linnebur and son-in-law Steve Savoie.   She is also survived by her brother Paul (Sally) Ciberay, her sister-in-laws Shirley (Gene) Linnebur and Shirley (Lloyd) Linnebur, her 25 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Thank You for all the prayers and support.
