Theodore "Ted" Lee Lyons

January 27, 1948 — October 18, 2017

Theodore Lee Lyons was born on January 27, 1948 to Walter F. Lyons and Mary C. (Murphy) Lyons in Hugo, Colorado. Ted was the 6th and final child born into the family. Ted passed away on October 18th, 2017 in the Lincoln Community Care Center where he had resided for approximately one year. Ted was a lifelong resident of Hugo where he attended the Genoa Public School and the Hugo Public School once district lines were changed. Ted graduated from the Hugo High School in 1966. In 1967 Ted had the misfortune of being injured in a car accident and it changed his life forever. Paralyzed from the ribs down, he would spend the next 50 years in a wheel chair. Even though he was slowed for a while, it did not stop him from pursuing his education. Ted attended Northeastern Junior College, where he earned a degree in business. Following his graduation, Eastern Slope Rural Telephone Association hired Ted, where he worked from 1972 to 2003 when he retired. Ted and his brother Bill were partners in a cattle ranching operation for more than 40 years. He was very political and following his retirement from ESRTA, Ted decided to run for County Commissioner. He won the election and completed three terms before he retired from the position. Ted remained a busy man being involved in several business ventures with his partners Gorden Hollowell, April Hollowell, Gary Shafer and Tony Lyons. Together they were a successful team. His partnership with Gorden lasted over 30 years and they never had a disagreement. Ted leaves behind his older brother Bill Lyons (Mimi), Dick Lyons (Julia), many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, Walter and Mary Lyons, his sister Madonna Allender, two brothers, Bob and Gerry Lyons, and a sister in law, Kathy Lyons. Donations may be made in Ted’s name to the Lincoln Community Care Center or the Hugo Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
