Thomas Roy Johnson

February 21, 1939 — June 25, 2019

            Thomas Roy Johnson passed away Tuesday, June 25th, 2019 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Byers. He was born February 21st, 1939 as the baby of eleven children to Per Sten Johnson and Lucy Ewell. He grew up in Edgewater, CO. He married Marilee Winterhalder in 1962 and started a small dairy farm in Henderson, CO. In 1972, Thomas and Marilee bought a farm/ranch in Byers and farmed until the end of his days. 

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilee, and his daughter, Darla. He is survived by his daughter Jackie Hawkes of Byers; his son James Johnson and wife Sheena of Byers; his six grandchildren: Stevie and husband Jim Rose, Todd Hawkes, Calie Halvorsen, Levi Halvorsen, Quinton Johnson and one great grandchild, Evelyn Rose. He was a father figure to his step-son Robert Alford, his sister-in-law, Dolores Stamp and a father figure to Joe Mcginn. 

Thomas had many interests, from antiques and Oliver tractors to old fords and vintage cars, but his true passion was for antique toys and trains. He loved to go to auctions and sales and was well known in the farming community. He will be missed by all who knew him and forever be in our hearts.

Burial and viewing will be held Tuesday, July 9th, 2019 at 11:00am at Hoyt Cemetery, Wiggins CO 80654. Love, memories, services and lunch will follow at Byers American Legion hall 278 W Front St, Byers, CO 80103.
