Velda K Nucklas

Velda Kay (Stone) Nucklas December 13, 1936 – July 29, 2026

Velda Kay Stone was born on December 13, 1936, in Flagler, Colorado, to Virgil Earl Stone and Florence Susia (Cowan) Stone. She grew up in Flagler and attended Flagler High School.

In the 1950s she married Clyde Neil Wittig. Their son, Veryl Lawrence Wittig, was born on April 16, 1963, in San Diego, California. The couple later divorced around 1980. Velda then married Jesse Nucklas in 1981.

Velda was a talented musician who played the piano and guitar with her family, and lovingly cared for many dogs and cats throughout her lifetime. Velda lived the majority of her life in Flagler Colorado, and also resided in various Colorado communities over the years, including Denver, Longmont, and Windsor. In late 2016 Velda moved to the Allison Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado, a long-term memory care facility, where she resided until her death on July 29, 2026.

Velda is survived by her son, Veryl Wittig, and her two grandchildren, Alison Leeann Wittig and Josef Adam Wittig. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Florence Stone, her brother Eldon Stone, and her husband Jesse Nucklas. A memorial service will be scheduled in Flagler later this year.
