Violet L. Knapp

August 24, 1914 — December 17, 2018

Violet Leona (Lundvall) Knapp, a lifelong resident of the Idalia and Burlington area, was born August 24 1914 in Hale, Colorado and died December 17, 2018 in Burlington, Colorado.  She was the third of six children born to Email Cordell Lundvall and Flora Mae (Stafford) Lundvall/Bauder.  Her father came to the United States at age 9 from Stockholm, Sweden.  Violet met and married Donald Wilford Knapp October 20, 1934. Donald passed away August 18 1985.   They had one daughter, Lola Elaine (Knapp) Clark, born May 2, 1934 and died May 11 1995.

Violet and her siblings grew up helping their father garden large plots of land and would even get to go on the “peddling truck” sometimes to sell the vegetables.   Her and Virgil used to tell how their father would get them to work toward doing things.  Emil would tell them if they do this they could do that.  She told of how they would take a little bucket of water and a salt shaker to the field and when they took a break they would pull up a vegetable and salt it and eat is.

She was an amazing seamstress, mother and wife.  She made the best western shirts ever.  Everyone said they were better than a store bought shirt.  She crochet and did needle point and made beautiful items and would put them in the fair.  She once crouched a bed spread with crochet thread.  She won big with it and was so proud of it.  She was also a great cook but she wouldn’t let you eat dessert on the plate you had the meal on.  You had to have a clean plate.  Violet was also like Dr. Doolittle. She named snakes (Waddles) bunny rabbits, cats, dogs birds to name a few.  She could set in the yard and the animals would come right up to her.

Her brother did not want her to live out in the country by herself and talked her into moving in with him in Burlington.  She cared for him until his passing in February 23, 2006.  She lived at the Burlington home with caregivers until she broke her leg at the age of 104 years old.  Violet was preceded in death by his parents and her siblings:   Ethel (Lundvall) Weaver/Devlin, Thelma May (Lundvall) Williams, Virgil Lloyd Lundvall, Archie Robert Lundvall and Lillian Amelia (Lundvall) Lengel/Ebeler.   She is survived by her Nephew, George Williams from Texas and numerous Great nieces and Great nephew.

She will laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington next to the love of her life, her husband Donald Knapp.

Memorials may be made to Eastern Plains Animal Welfare Alliance (EPAWA) in Violet's memory and may be sent in c/o Debbie Nider to 230 Eldridge St., Burlington, Colorado 80807.
