Walter "Wally" Carl Thiede

November 9, 1963 — August 18, 2018

Walter (Wally) Carl Thiede, age 54, left this world on Saturday, August 18th, 2018 at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington, CO. He was born November 9th, 1963 in Wausau, WI. to John Thiede Jr. and Darleen (Witter) Thiede. He was the third oldest of nine children.

Walter moved with his family from Wisconsin to Colorado in 1971. The family built their home south of Burlington. Walter attended the Burlington School District with the class of 1982, where he built many lifelong friendships. After school he started his trucking career, when he helped his brother Justin, transporting grain. His next business adventure had him traveling across the United States as he worked side by side with his father and siblings in a traveling family business. Upon returning home he was involved in a trucking, farming and cattle operation. In 2002 he purchased his own truck and started hauling with Colglazier Livestock. Wally enjoyed his life very much. He never married but he had a very strong family relationship with his parents, siblings and the biggest joys his nieces and nephews. He purchased t-shirts for the nieces and nephews that said, “Wally is my favorite uncle.” This started a family debate, with the other uncles. He also had strong ties with many friends. Wally never turned down someone in need, it didn’t matter how busy he was he would be there for family and friends alike. He was a great mentor and role model for all.

Wally enjoyed taking time for fun and relaxation too. He loved going to the lake, golfing, driving his off-road terrain vehicles (which he never convinced his sister Char to ride with him, because she didn’t quite trust him). He also took every opportunity to visit family and friends, holiday gatherings, birthday celebrations, sporting events, graduations, weddings he was always in attendance armed with a new joke to tell. Wally had a tender heart just like his mother, which may have been a result of the years he lived with and cared for her. They would watch Hallmark movies, and both would get very emotional. After his mother was gone he continued to prefer the Hallmark movies over a football game, but you could never tell this during the many debates the guys had over football. Wally will be missed by all and remembered by his family and friends as a loving son, brother, uncle and great friend.

Walter leaves behind his father, John Thiede Jr. of Yuma AZ, his brother John Thiede IV (JW) and Cassie, children John V (JT), Cody (Anna) and Tiffany of Hays, KS, sister Charlayne (Thiede) Bancroft and Jay of Vona CO, children Kyle (Autumn) and son Jackson of Burlington CO, Naomi of Stratton, CO, Sister Paulette (Thiede) Thompson and Rod, children Trey (Shelby), Trevor and Torrie of Stratton, CO, sister Evone (Thiede) Waggoner and Gregg, children Toby (fiancé Meredith), Tyler (fiancé Kayla) and Tanner of Quinter, KS, brother Glen Thiede and Sheryl, children Dusty, Paige and Sierra of Winnemucca, NV, sister Kristine (Thiede) Richardson and Eric, children Mitchell, Justine and Garrett of Burlington, CO, sister Debra Thiede, children Justin, Joseph, Casey, Trenton, Ashton, Michaelle, Janette, and Britney of Winnemucca, NV. Walter was preceded in death by his mother Darleen Thiede, brother Justin Thiede, sister-in-law Kim Thiede, nephews Justin Jr. (Jay) Thiede, Trinidy Thiede, Evan Bancroft and niece Dallas Thiede.
